Before the match vs Poland

Dariusz Kurowski from Warszawa
Poland beat Denmark 3:2 in their second FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier and now expect another victory against Armenia on Tuesday.

When Polish team came back from EURO 2016 in France the all were welcomed like heroes. The place in quarterfinals were noticed by local media and fans almost like the European title! There was practice no space for any kind of reflection or more realistic look on the style of the team, which was far away from the ideal one. But Polish football urgently needed any kind of success, so such crazy enthusiasm was very easy to understand.
At the beginning of September, the qualification to 2018 FIFA World Cup started with Poland’s inaugural game in Kazakhstan. They scored two goal in the first half and when the both teams went to the dressing room for the break it seemed that everything is under control of Adam Nawałka side.

But the second half was completely different. The hosts scored two goal and the game ended in a draw. This result was noticed in Poland almost as a national catastrophe and the end of the world! The expectation after the EURO was so high that media and fans didn’t accept any other result as an easy win in Astana. And they didn’t want any kind of explanation like artificial pitch, still tiredness after the long season and very short summer break...
Nawałka described this result as “a little breakdown” and added that he “knows the all mistakes done by his players which should be eliminated as fast as possible”. But in another game with Denmark on Saturday situation was quite the same. Poland led 3-0 and then lost two goals. Fortunately, differently than in Kazakhstan, they finally won 3-2.
So it is difficult to describe it as another little breakdown after rather a bigger one in Astana a month earlier. To be honest it is nothing new in style of playing of Polish team. In earlier qualifying campaign to EURO 2016 the situation was almost the same – two totally different parts of the game in each of them. It means the team couldn’t keep the same level for the whole 90 minutes.

The all three goals against Denmark was scored by Robert Lewandowski. A few days earlier in Polish media was published the story that he is “in a crisis”, because hasn’t scored in a few successive Bayern matches. It made furious Polish star who answered:
“I have the all such opinion in my bum”!

And he answered even better at National Stadium in Warsaw on Saturday when completed the hat-trick. Especially his third goal was worth to watch. He run from the middle of the pitch having two rivals on his back and despite that found the way to the net.

Poland lost in this game Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik. He has very serious knee ligament injury and need a surgery operation, so will not play for sure against Armenia on Tuesday.
Poles are expected to win again in this game. Nobody will underestimated the Armenian team, but according to the media opinion, it would be a catastrophe, if they couldn’t win.
